Are official comments made about policy proposals actually taken into account by the powers that be, or does the organization already have its mind made up?

The American Bar Association's Accreditation Council, on its recent proposed repeal of a standard that governs DEI requirements in law school admissions, saw 96% of commenters urge it to โ€œretain and strengthen" the standard instead of repealing it. The council still voted to repeal.

So what does it take? To find out more about the process and the reaction, legal education reporter Christine Charnosky spoke with Washington University School of Law professor Gregory Magarian; Verรณnica C. Gonzales, professor of law at the University of New Mexico School of Law; Daniel Thies, ABA Accreditation Council chair; and Richard Ford, professor of law at Stanford Law School.
