🇩🇴 Dominican Government Bars Haiti’s National Football Team From State-Run Sports Facilities
The Dominican government has announced that Haiti’s national football team will no longer be permitted to play international matches in sports facilities administered by the Dominican state, according to reports from Dominican media citing Sports Minister Kelvin Cruz.
The announcement comes just one day after Haiti secured a commanding 4–1 victory over the Dominican Republic at the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in Santo Domingo during the Concacaf Nations League.
According to Dominican outlet Telenoticias, Cruz said the decision was made following instructions from Dominican President Luis Abinader. The measure reportedly applies specifically to state-run sports facilities, potentially affecting Haiti’s ability to use venues in the Dominican Republic for future international home fixtures.
Haiti has been playing some of its international home matches outside the country due to ongoing insecurity, which has prevented several Haitian stadiums from meeting the requirements to host major international fixtures. The Dominican Republic has therefore served as an important venue for Haitian national teams.
The timing of the announcement, coming shortly after Haiti’s 4–1 victory, has attracted significant attention. However, there is currently no verified evidence confirming that the result of Thursday’s match was the reason behind the Dominican government’s decision.
