On this day... On May 25, 2020, in Minneapolis Minnesota, George Floyd, an unarmed Black man, died after a white police officer knelt on his neck for more than nine minutes while he was restrained on the ground. Bystander video captured Floyd repeatedly saying, “I can’t breathe.” The footage spread rapidly across social media and news outlets, prompting widespread outrage and grief over the circumstances of his death.

The impact of Floyd’s murder was immediate and global. It sparked massive protests across the United States and around the world, many organized under the banner of the Black Lives Matter movement. Demonstrations called for police accountability, systemic reform, and a broader reckoning with racial injustice.

The event led to renewed public conversations about policing, the criminal justice system, and structural inequality, influencing policy debates, corporate commitments, and civic engagement. In this way, Floyd’s death became not only a tragedy but also a catalyst for one of the largest protest movements in history, reshaping national and international dialogue about race and justice.

Never Forgotten🕊️: Six years ago today, the world watched in horror as George Floyd died during an arrest in Minneapolis, a moment that sparked global outrage and renewed demands for justice and police reform.

On May 25, 2020, Floyd’s death — captured on video and witnessed around the world — became a defining moment in modern American history. The tragedy ignited massive demonstrations across the United States and internationally, with millions marching against police brutality, racial injustice, and systemic inequality.

The case led to historic legal proceedings, including the conviction of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was found guilty on murder and manslaughter charges in Floyd’s death.

Six years later, George Floyd’s name continues to carry weight far beyond the headlines. Murals, memorials, and community gatherings remain reminders of both loss and the ongoing conversations surrounding accountability, public safety, and civil rights.

For many, this anniversary is not only a time of remembrance but also reflection — honoring George Floyd’s life while continuing discussions about the work that still remains.

Rest in peace, George Floyd.
May remembrance continue to inspire justice, humanity, and change. 🙏🏿🤍

Baltimore officially renamed part of Greenmount Avenue in the Pen Lucy neighborhood as “Tupac Shakur Way” during a weekend honoring Tupac Shakur’s legacy in the city where he spent part of his teenage years and attended the Baltimore School for the Arts. Mayor Brandon Scott joined Tupac’s sister, Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur, community leaders, and residents for the dedication ceremony, which also included a peace walk and community initiatives tied to the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation. The tribute came alongside the Orioles’ Tupac bobblehead night at Camden Yards, where thousands of fans showed up to celebrate the late rapper’s Baltimore roots.
