November 2015 Newsletter

Greetings!
Welcome to our November 2015 Newsletter. Thank you for joining our email list. We truly appreciate your interest in Marathon Boat Yard Marine Center.
We wish you and your crew a Happy Thanksgiving!

DON'T MISS THIS BOAT SHOW!

Tripletail

The Tripletail is a surface fish, lounging around floating debris and buoys waiting for it's dinner to arrive. They can grow to 40 pounds but are normally found much smaller. They have very sharp teeth and spines with razors for gills, so handle with care. Tripletail feed on smaller fish, shrimp and crabs and are very good table fare. They are quite shy and slow to take your bait.

A few tons of Atlantic tripletails are fished commercially on the east and west coasts of Florida, and marketed fresh, frozen, or salted. They are mainly caught using haul seines, gill nets, and line gear. They are common in driftnet catches of tuna along the edge of the continental shelf. This fish is infrequently targeted by recreational fishers.
Key Lime Fudge

Ingredients:

14 oz Sweetened condensed milk
2 tbsp Key lime juice (approximately 3 key limes)
3 tsp key lime zest (use a microplane to keep the zest pieces small)
3 cups White chocolate chips

Directions:
Butter a casserole dish or 8"x 8" baking dish, and set aside.
Place sweetened condensed milk and white chocolate chips into a large sauce pan and place on the stove over low heat. Stir chocolate mixture until all chocolate chips are melted and incorporated into the sweetened condensed milk.
Remove from heat and stir in Key lime zest and fresh Key lime juice.
Pour mixture into your prepared baking dish.
Cover and chill for at least 2 hours, or until Key lime fudge is set and hard.
Remove from the refrigerator and enjoy!

Let's Talk Weather
Weather in the Keys is generally always beautiful! It's been a bit windy with some evening showers lately, but never the less it's still a great time in the Florida Keys. Currently the average highs are around 84 degrees Fahrenheit and the lows around 77 degrees Fahrenheit. As Fall is upon us we can certainly feel the slight decrease in temperature, a relief from the Summer's hot temperatures, making for gorgeous days and nights.
Be sure to capture one of our beautiful sunsets, currently setting around 7:13 P.M.
,
What's Biting?
As of Oct.15, stone crab claws, brought fresh to shore from Florida Keys waters, are being harvested to be steamed, cracked, plated and served dipped in melted butter or a savory mustard sauce.
During the seven-month-long stone crab season, hundreds of thousands of pounds of Florida's stellar crustacean will make their way from area waters to diners across the nation who hunger for their sweet, tender meat

(Keys Local Summer Livengood collecting Stone Crab)
October is without a doubt one of the best times of the year to go flats fishing here in The Keys. The backcountry is also great in the fall. The fall offers our transitional months in the backcountry fishing where we get into many different species. Wrecks & Reef fishing offer Yellowtail Snapper, Mutton Snapper, Jacks, Barracudas, Permit, Sharks, Kingfish, Cobia, Cero, & Spanish Mackerel. Late in the fall we also get into some great snapper and pompano fishing.
Happy Fishing!
