Update – Saturday AM

Snow is making its way into the district this morning. While the bigger impacts are expected this afternoon, any amount of precipitation can lead to slick travel conditions. You should already be adjusting your driving behavior by slowing down and increasing your stopping and following distance.

PRE-TREATMENT – Crews were out on Friday pre-treating primary and secondary state routes. This is a tool we use to help keep snow and ice from bonding to the roadway, making it easier for our to clear the way when the snow starts falling. It will not keep roads from becoming snow covered or slick so keep that in mind.

FULL CALL OUT – INDOT crews were out in full force as of midnight. Our plow drivers will be working rotating 12 hour shifts around the clock until the snow stops and clean up operations are complete.

FORECAST – Predictions are 6” across the entire district and higher totals of 8-13” in our northern counties.

IMPACTS – We continue to recommend avoiding travel Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning when snowfall rates will be the highest and most impactful. This will also give plows more room for their snow removal efforts. Remember: if traffic is slowed down or stopped due to a crash, that means our plows are ALSO stuck in the traffic backup.

REAL-TIME ROAD CONDITIONS – Check road and plow cameras at 511in.org or the INDOT TrafficWise app.

Let’s do this!
