A Look at Civil War Diseases and Today’s Pandemic – Middleburg Life

News media consistently refers to COVID-19 as the “invisible enemy,” a “global war” and “the plague.” The medical community and first responders are heroes on the front lines.

Similarities can be drawn between today’s frontliners and the medics who fought diseases and injuries during the 19th century. Just like back then, make-shift field hospitals have popped up to serve the sick, and local communities have rallied.

Historic Garden Week in Virginia

Virtual tour of Oak Spring Garden in full bloom!

The extensive garden at Oak Spring, which was designed and tended by Oak Spring Garden Foundation founder, philanthropist and horticulturalist Bunny Mellon, is currently in peak bloom.

We are happy to announce that the tour of this "bucket list" garden has been rescheduled to be a part of Historic Garden Week 2021. We appreciate Oak Spring's gift to the Garden Club of Virginia and the nearly 150 private homeowners who graciously agreed to welcome visitors to their homes and gardens, many of whom will be open next year.

Enjoy this virtual tour of part of the Oak Spring garden and join us later today for a second post of Oak Spring.

My name is Bill Incatasciato, and I am the admin for my page “Loudoun Christmas Lights,” My family and I love Christmas Lights and enjoy driving around the area to see the wonderful displays that other people set up. Unfortunately, I could never find a reliable listing of Christmas Light displays in Loudoun County, so I decided to create a comprehensive list of large and creative displays three years ago. I wanted to help other people find local Christmas displays in Loudoun County and to provide a platform for those who do large and/or cool displays to show them off to others. This page is intended for people in Loudoun County (and maybe really close by) to post their homes so that others may find them and appreciate the cheer they have created on their properties. This is the third year that I have been doing this, and hope that it continues to grow and become a valuable resource for our community. I ask that you help in one or all of the following ways: • Like/follow and share my page with others. • Send me photos and locations of Christmas light displays so I can post onto the page. It doesn’t have to be just your house. I do believe we should share the joy that others create. • Visit the displays and enjoy the effort that was put into them. When posting a picture, please include an address, hours, (if applicable), any restrictions/limitations (i.e. no head lights, don't block driveways, accepting donations, etc…,) and any other commentary. Please note, this a family friendly site, and I will review each submission prior to posting. Thanks for helping light up Loudoun County for the holidays!
