Before it became the address of Helyn Anderson’s historic home, 42 Park Street was the site of Brandon’s first Baptist meeting house in 1800.

Helyn Anderson has lived at 42 Park Street in Brandon for almost 50 years. Located only steps from downtown, it was where John Conant built the first Baptist meeting house in 1800.

Gary Stanley has seen a lot as Funeral Director at Miller & Ketcham in Brandon. He’s seen the anguish of grief as well as the joy of remembrance. Stanley is closing in on 50 years at Miller & Ketcham, the oldest continuously operating funeral home in Vermont and one of the 10 oldest in the entire country.

2026 will mark 25 years since Shelly and Doug Sawyer bought Brandon’s iconic Lilac Inn on Park Street. Thousands of guests. Hundreds of weddings. Innumerable memories.

“I’ve never lived anywhere else so long,” said Shelly in a recent conversation. “But 25 years as an innkeeper is a long time. I’ll still have to have Vermont in my life, but I’m ready for a new adventure.”

Amanda Van Eps is using her aesthetic skills to increase awareness of rare diseases, including her own. She was recently announced as a finalist in the Rare Artist Competition sponsored by the EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases. Her entry, entitled “Ball & Chain,” was chosen as one of 20 finalists out of 235 submitted works.

Amanda Van Eps does not seem ill when you meet her.
