RUDY CHAPMAN 🔰⚔️🩷 Rudy Clayton Chapman, 13, of Middlebury, passed away peacefully at his home while surrounded by his family at 12:33 pm, on Wednesday, July 30, after a courageous battle with Ewing Sarcoma.
Rudy was a bright and joyful boy who loved sports, enjoyed school, and treasured time with his friends and family. He walked with faith, a positive spirit, and a deep love for Notre Dame. Eight years ago, when Rudy was first diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, he was adopted by the Notre Dame hockey team. That bond became something truly special as he attended countless games. Watching hockey always brought a smile to Rudy’s face, and the relationships he and his family built with the team meant the world to them.
Rudy was also a very studious young man. He took great pride in attending Northridge Middle School, where he enjoyed spending time with both his friends and his teachers. He especially loved being outdoors, whether that was fishing, enjoying the fresh air, or simply exploring the world around him. Rudy's family cherished making memories together - whether that was at home, church, the ice rink, or on a trip out of state. Every moment shared was a gift, and Rudy filled those moments with joy.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the community, the First United Methodist Church, and the Notre Dame hockey team for their unwavering love and support throughout Rudy’s journey. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, August 8, at the First United Methodist Church, 720 South Main Street, Middlebury. The family encourages anyone attending the visitation to wear Notre Dame attire. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the 11:00 am Funeral service on Saturday, August 9, also at the church. Services will be conducted by Pastor David Eaton and Pastor Ron Russell. The family will hold a private graveside service at Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury. Memorials may be given to the Ronald McDonald House of Michiana or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
