Our 56th birthday is TODAY! Praise God! We've been on the air 24/7 for 490,560 hours!

“The time is twelve o’clock and you’re tuned to 104.9FM, Middletown. W – I – H – S, where We’re In His Service, that is, the service of our Lord Jesus Christ. We give Him honor for raising up this radio station for His glory and would like to share this hymn of praise as we begin our first broadcast.” -- Jim Pelley, October 11, 1969 at 12 noon.

Then began the first song to air on WIHS: “Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father! There is no shadow of turning with Thee. Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not. As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be. Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see. All I have needed Thy hand hath provided - Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!”

It was 56 years ago today that the airwaves first crackled with the voice of Jim Pelley welcoming listeners to the inaugural broadcast of WIHS! Throughout all of these 56 years, WIHS has remained 100% listener supported and commercial-free, with Christ-centered music and solid biblical teaching. Praise God!

“WIHS had the most humble beginnings – a transmitter in a metal cabinet on a utility pole, broadcasting from a $45-a-month downtown studio, and against continuing odds that caused many to advise us to give it up! But we know God had called and we had to obey. What He is calling you to do, DO! Don’t fear the obstacles – trust in a sovereign all-powerful God to do His work Through you. -- “Uncle” Al Thyberg, WIHS Founder at the 1990 NRB Convention, where WIHS received the Radio Broadcast Facility of the Year Award

Last night, Drew Crandall and Gerry Williams participated in the 2025 Connecticut Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame Award Banquet at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington.

We socialized with many of the State's network and non-profit radio and television execs and on-air staff. Gerry had opportunities to interview several award recipients. As Drew spoke with attendees, many people knew about WIHS, expressed their appreciation for our emphasis on "hope and encouraqement" and mentioned that they like the changes that we've made in recent years.

It was time very well spent--being a Christian presence and building relationship with broadcasting peers across the State! It was also a fascinating precursor to our own banquet there on October 18th!

Dear Friends:

Yesterday afternoon, I just "had" to leave the office so that my wife Dawn and I could hike up Talcott Mountain to Heublein Tower in Simsbury. It's a rigorous three-mile (round trip) hike that was well worth the effort. The weather and the views were spectacular!

My Dad was in the insurance business, and in the 1960s, Hartford was the "Insurance Capital of the World." (It still is in many ways.) In October of 1967, he was transferred to Hartford, and my parents settled on the Town of Simsbury as the place to finish raising us kids.

I've been hiking up Talcott Mountain ever since, for 58 years! Perhaps you've hiked there also. It's one of Connecticut's most profound "mountaintop experiences." Mountaintops give you unique vantage points to take a panoramic look at reality. To literally see the landscape from "higher ground."

So it is with the annual Celebrate Jesus Gala & Expo hosted by WIHS 104.9 FM, Connecticut's Christian media ministry for 24/7 hope and encouragement. Each year, hundreds of Connecticut Christians (pastors, church leaders, para-church ministry leaders, businesspeople, families, couples and individuals) "climb the mountain" to the Aqua Turf Club in Southington for a Spirit-led, Spirit-filled evening.

The Celebrate Jesus mountaintop experience includes:

--A unique panoramic view of displays by about 30 diverse Christian ministries from across the State.

--Powerful worship and fellowship with a diverse assembly of Christ-followers from across the State.

--An invigorating look at WIHS' past, present and future. The view ahead of our future is bright in Him!

--A fascinating glimpse of Connecticut's rich Christian heritage, including Rev. Thomas Ho**er, called "The Father of Connecticut," a founder of Hartford and Connecticut and the inspiration behind "The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut."

You'll drive away from the Aqua Turf Club inspired, encouraged, equipped and energized to keep on keeping on serving the Lord in the valleys of everyday life in this beautiful State. God loves Connecticut, and so do we!

Please join us!

Joyfully yours,

Drew

Get ready for an evening full of unexpected Divine Appointments!

Looking in the rearview mirror of our journey of faith, we can all look back and see "Divine Appointments." For example, the day you met your future spouse. The day you landed a particular job. The day you met a person whom the Lord used to specifically encourage, comfort, advise or warn you. The greatest example of a divine appointment is the day that your personal faith in Christ came alive and you experienced the New Birth.

Within the context of the local church, you've very likely had many divine appointments: unexpected, spontaneous conversations before or after the worship service, through a message from the Lord during the preaching and teaching of His Word, during a prayer meeting, a fellowship time or another type of church activity.

God works in mysterious ways. He made us social creatures, and He desires to have us gather together in-person for mutual inspiration, edification, education, worship, comfort, exhortation and celebration.

That's the way it is for folks who come to the annual WIHS banquet. Those who come are blessed in so many unexpected, Spirit-directed ways! A connection with one of the ministries in the Ministry Expo. A casual conversation as you go through the appetizer line. A new relationship sparked at the dinner table. Plus, of course, the celebratory worship music and singing, the inspirational and encouraging speakers, and the beautiful atmosphere of the Aqua Turf Club.

Add it all up, and the 2025 Celebrate Jesus Gala & Expo truly is a unique, wonderful "family reunion" of the Body of Christ in Connecticut. Please join us! Tickets, ministry display space, and sponsorships are available online. If you have any questions, please call the office at 860.346.1049 this week between 9 am and 4 pm and our staff will be delighted to help!

PLEASE DON'T PROCRASTINATE! Hundreds of people have already purchased their tickets. What about you, family, friends, and fellow church members? Now's the final time to set the stage for divine appointments of your own! Order your tickets and apply for sponsorships and ministry display space today!
