At approximately 12:02 pm today, I was made aware of a pursuit that had originated in Hamilton County, and was eastbound on US Highway 36 from Madison County. I was made aware that the pursuing officers had lost sight of the suspect vehicle.

I was advised that two black males had reportedly fired shots at a person in Hamilton County and had fled in their vehicle. I was also advised they are possibly armed with an AK-47.

Local law-enforcement caught up to the fleeing vehicle on US 36 at County Road 500 West in Henry County, when the suspects attempted to turn southbound onto 500 W. at a high rate of speed, in an attempt to elude law enforcement.

The suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed in an open field. Both black male suspects then fled on foot into a wooded area nearby.

A tight perimeter was immediately established as many officers from multiple law enforcement agencies arrived on scene to search for the suspects.

A more than three hour, in depth search of the area was completed, utilizing multiple drones and K-9 teams, from the Henry and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Offices.

Approximately 50 law-enforcement officers from the Henry, Madison and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Offices, and the New Castle, Middletown, and Pendleton Police Departments assisted in the search.

The suspects have not yet been located. They are to be considered armed and dangerous. One AK-47 was located in the vehicle.

Please be vigilant and report any suspicious activity in the area by calling 911.

John M. Sproles
Henry County Sheriff

BURN BAN IN HENRY COUNTY:

Due to the current drought conditions and no forecast of rain in the near future, the Henry County Commissioners have instituted a county wide ban on open burning, as of October 22, 2024, until further notice.

This order shall not prohibit the use of gas grills or charcoal grills used solely for the preparation of food, fires within fireplaces or non-combustible fire rings or fires within incinerators permitted by state law as long as all such fires are closely attended while burning, sufficient fire extinguisher
provisions are maintained and the fire is properly and thoroughly extinguished.

This ban on open burning will remain in effect until sufficient rainfall is received to relieve the current conditions adequately.
