The windsock already answered. Runways are named by compass direction — 27 points west, 09 points east — and airplanes take off and land into the wind whenever possible, because a headwind gives you more lift at a lower ground speed. Check the sock, pick the runway, brief the plan. 🙂 💨

Truer than most people realize: the back seat of a training flight is one of the best classrooms in aviation. Watching another student work the radio, hold a heading, or rescue a wobbly approach teaches you things your own hands haven't learned yet — and it costs nothing. 🙂 👀

Not from talent, not from swagger — preparation. Flight bag packed the same way every time, checklists where your hand expects them, notes reviewed before you ever walk to the airplane. Do the work on the ground, and confidence isn't something you have to summon in the air. It's just there. 🙂 ✈️

The windsock is the most honest instrument on the field: it shows wind direction at a glance, and its angle tells you the speed. Hanging limp means calm; standing straight out means it's blowing hard. Forecasts guess. The windsock reports. 🙂 🦜

And now comes the part that separates good habits from great ones: putting the dipstick back and securing the cap. Engines are famously picky about keeping their oil on the inside. Check the level, secure the cap, close the access door — then go fly with a clear conscience. 🙂 🔧

One of the first great discoveries in flight training: the trim wheel. Set it right, and the airplane holds its attitude with fingertip pressure instead of a wrestling match. If you're fighting the controls, you're not flying the airplane — you're arguing with it. 😄 ✈️

Airport ramps are loud, busy places where people mostly talk with their eyes and hands: high-visibility vests, marshalling wands, standard signals everyone understands. If they can't see you, they can't avoid you. 🙂 🦺
