Fashion is easy, but creating your own style can be difficult. My advice to you is to be bold, brave, and find the style that speaks to you. Stay away from the mannequins in the department stores because that’s someone else’s fashion/style, those are only suggestions. The same goes with makeup. There are no rules to make up, only suggestions. If you love it, wear it!

My mom was my reason I felt it necessary to look my best every day. The only time I remember her without her makeup on was a couple days before she died and was in a comatose state. Growing up she rose before everyone putting on her makeup and went to bed after everyone to take it off. I remember one time I was with her shopping and a friend came up to us, started talking and said to my mom “Why do you feel you have to wear all that makeup? You’re married, have kids. Is all that necessary?” (Some friend she was.) Mom quietly replied, “I don’t want my husband coming home from work after a hard day, and see his wife in curlers and bathrobe, or my daughters to think that dressing up and wearing makeup isn’t necessary. It shows that you respect yourself no matter what others think. It’s just who I am.” I’ve never forgotten that. She wore makeup as long as I can remember and passed away at the age of 86 wearing her makeup and bright colors up until a couple days before she died. So, yes, I wear makeup because, for me, if I look good on the outside, I feel better about myself on the inside, and I demonstrate to others that I believe in self respect. We are God’s vessel and we are to respect ourselves be taking care of our health and outward appearance.
