ESPN 100.9-FM is the radio flagship home of the Great Lakes Loons. The station was purchased by the Loons organization on March 25, 2008 from the Last Bastion Trust. The station was previously owned by Citadel Broadcasting, operating as a simulcast of classic rock station WILZ-FM. The Michigan Baseball Foundation, the 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that owns Dow Diamond, helped finance the purch
ase. The Foundation also funded the construction of the radio studio in the Dow Diamond press box, overlooking the baseball field, which was completed in January 2009. These steps, made by the Michigan Baseball Foundation, are consistent with the Foundation’s stated mission of promoting regional economic development. ESPN 100.9-FM carries ESPN Radio’s flagship weekday programs Keyshawn, JWill & Zubin (6-10am), featuring former star NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson; Greeny, with longtime ESPN radio and TV personality Mike Greenberg (10am-12pm), Bart & Hahn (12pm-2pm), featuring former NFL linebacker Bart Scott, and The Max Kellerman Show (2pm-3pm). ESPN 100.9-FM also carries The HUGE Show, hosted by Michigan’s premiere sports talk show host Bill Simonson, from 3-6pm. In addition to being the flagship station of the Great Lakes Loons, ESPN 100.9-FM serves as the home for the following properties:
Detroit Pistons
MSU Football & Basketball
MSU Coaches Shows
Great Lakes Bay Region High School Football and Basketball
Major League Baseball
NCAA College Football, including bowl games
National Football League
Like the Loons, ESPN 100.9-FM operates as a non-profit organization. The radio station will provide an additional revenue stream for the Michigan Baseball Foundation, which along with the Loons has helped generate over $350,000 in charitable donations during the Loons first season. The station’s purchase also corresponds with the Foundation’s mission of promoting local economic development.
