Farahst1dlife I’ve lived with Type 1 diabetes since I was 11.

This space is for the real info about life with T1D — food, travel, resilience, burnout, and everything in between.

Low blood sugar is one of those things you have to be prepared for.

These are my go-to low blood sugar snacks that I reach for when my numbers drop. Nothing fancy — just things I know work for my body.

✔️ Glucose tabs
✔️ Gummy bears
✔️ Gatorade
✔️ Peanut butter crackers

I shared more details in my latest blog post “My Go-To Low Blood Sugar Snacks”.

If you’re managing diabetes too, I’d love to hear: what do you always keep nearby for lows?

✨ 2026 Focus: Staying Healthy by Maintaining Balance (with Type 1 Diabetes) ✨

One thing I’m doing differently this year is focusing on balance — including making time to pamper myself. 🔗 I posted the full goal on farahst1dlife.com → My blog

Today looks like: haircut + nails + massage 💆🏽‍♀️💅🏽 And yes… this counts as health. Because staying balanced impacts my blood sugars just as much as healthy food does.

Also… 103 mg/dL while I’m taking care of myself? We love to see it 😅✨

🫶🏽 If you’re working on your health this year too — what’s ONE small thing you’re doing to stay consistent?

👏🏽 Special thanks to Whitney Beamon for a beautiful cut + color (to cover those pesky grays 😅✨). Find her on instagram

Some days, managing Type 1 Diabetes means handling more than blood sugar — it means managing yourself.

The mental side of diabetes doesn’t get talked about enough. But it’s real.

In my latest blog post, I open up about what it feels like when everyday life feels overwhelming — and how I find small ways to reset and breathe through it.

When a new week begins, I focus on what there is to be grateful for.

This week, I’m grateful for:

✨ technology that keeps me safe
✨ people who check in
✨ a body that keeps trying
✨ the quiet moments in between

Gratitude doesn’t erase the hard parts — but it softens the view. 💙
What’s one thing you’re grateful for as we start this week?

Managing diabetes is more than carb counts and checking your blood sugar. It’s the constant thinking. The planning, never getting a break, the exhaustion no one sees.

Some days it feels like a full-time job I didn’t apply for, can’t quit, and don’t get a vacation from. When you layer “regular life” on top… it can be overwhelming in a way that’s hard to explain.

If you’re overwhelmed, tired, or just need to hear “me too” — I wrote this for you. 💙

🌊 Flexibility — it’s not about changing plans, it’s about keeping peace when they change.

T1D has a way of reminding me that even the best plans can shift — meals, workouts, even simple errands. But I’ve learned that flexibility doesn’t mean losing control; it means trusting myself enough to adapt.

For me, starting with a plan and holding it loosely in case things change is what works best 💙

💬 How do you stay flexible when things don’t go as planned?

✨ “It’s been a minute — life (and blood sugars) have been doing their thing. I’ve been slowing down, finding balance, and living the stories I want to share here again.”

🌊 I’ll be sharing this week's reflection, about Flexibility, tomorrow.

Last week I had to flex on taking time to manage my lows — and give myself grace for it.
💬 What’s something you’ve had to flex on?

✨ Weekly Reflection ✨

T1D has a way of teaching patience — waiting on corrections, letting the tough moments pass, and learning to trust the process.

Patience isn’t about being perfect — it’s about pausing when you need to, and remembering that progress (even slow) is still progress. 🌱 💙

💭 What’s one way you remind yourself to stay patient on the hard days?
Let's start a list in the comments 👇🏽

🎶 Good Vibes Only 🎶

A steady number and good vibes — that’s how I roll into the day. 💙🎵

Here are a few titles from my Good Vibes Weekend playlist, the songs that get me out of bed and ready to take on the day:
☀️ Walking on Sunshine – Katrina and the Waves
🌈 Mr. Blue Sky – Weezer
💪 You Get What You Give – New Radicals

Because sometimes, a great beat is exactly what you need to face whatever your numbers throw at you.

What’s your go-to song when you need a boost? Drop it below — I’m always looking for new songs! 💙

We tried a new Southern food spot. He enjoys southern food — I was busy juggling the T1D math 😅.

Southern food = fried + fatty = delayed spikes. I split my insulin into 2 doses, stayed steady at 189 💙 by dessert… then hit 252 a couple hours later.

Not perfect, but this is T1D — always learning, always adjusting.

👉🏽 How do you handle high-fat meals? Double dose? Extended bolus? Correct later?

Not medical advice — just my personal T1D experience. Always check with your doctor for your own care.
