I AM SO FRUSTRATED AND I FEEL ALONE! Everyone you talk to tells you of the importance of the park and pool to the community. It seems no one but several borough officials and a few bean counters want the pool to close for the summer and let's face it - once it's closed once, it will never reopen. Don't convince yourself otherwise. We need help - we need lifeguards and we apparently still need some other employees now as well. The goalpost keeps changing. I hear so many good ideas and it seems we even have volunteers that will help. When ideas are tossed out - they are met with obstruction and a million reasons why we can't do this or that. Who is going to rent pavilions when the pool is gone? Who wants to spend the day at the park on the Fourth when the pool is gone? Who wants to spend a day at the Blueberry Festival when the pool is gone? Who is going to make sure the riff-raff don't completely move into the park and make it uninhabitable for families to have fun? What about our kids that use the pool - remember the affect it had on them in 2020 when we had to keep it closed. This isn't fair to them either. We have a very good swimming team that is trying to get a varsity team established at the high school - they need the pool. Several services use the pool during the summer for children - the Aquacats swim there and provide great outdoor rec. for kids instead of encouraging them to sit in front of their games all summer. The park is a vital community space and closing the pool feels like amputating a limb. I feel like I am the only one at least trying to get people to apply for jobs (thank you to those that shared) - I haven't heard one peep from the borough in the last six weeks about getting hiring information out. Why won't they reach out to the schools? I can't do that. Am I alone in this? We need help - we need people speaking up and we need people to come to this meeting on Tuesday and ask serious questions - what have they done in the last month to get more help - to get the word out? When I talk to people on council they just put their heads down like they already know the decision has been made but by conveniently not having enough employees, the blame can shift to the community. Yeah I'm mad and I'm done pussyfooting around about it. And lastly - if they close the pool, where is the money allocated for the park going? Is it going to stay where it belongs and make other needed park improvements or will it go to other projects? If you are interested in applying for a summer job - applications can be found online; if you email [email protected], I can forward you one directly; or you can stop at the borough office and ask for a copy. PLEASE CONSIDER COMING TO THE MEETING TUESDAY AND LET OUR VOICES BE HEARD.
