County Library Announces 2 Book Sales, First Next Thursday

MIFFLINTOWN — Just in time for summer’s leisure time and vacations, the Friends of the Juniata County Library have planned two one-day bag sales in answer to public demand.
As with other bag sales, a bag costs $7 which can be filled with books, CDs, DVDs, and magazines. Jigsaw puzzles will be available for $3 each.
The first one-day bag sale is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12.
“This is the perfect opportunity to load up on beach books, mysteries, and craft books for both adults and kids,” said Ginny Haubert, a member of the Friends group. “For all those bored children, the Friends have great activity and craft books on everything from egg carton crafts to nail art to toys and games from paper. There are also books on educational crafts that involve science experiments and earth-friendly crafts.”
During the second sale on Thursday, Aug. 14, all Friends of the Library members will be recognized for their support by getting the first chance to buy books. The first hour from 9 to 10 a.m. is set as the “Friends Only” hour.
Of course, Friends’ memberships can be purchased at the door.
Since regular book donations continue to come into the library, the book cellar is open from 9 a.m. to noon every Monday that the library is open. On these Mondays, items are priced individually instead of by bag. Hardbacks are $2; paperbacks and young adult books, as well as CDs and DVDs, are $1, and most magazines and children’s books are 25 cents. There are also some specialty items such as gift baskets and puzzles.
“The Friends of the Library use all proceeds from their fundraising projects to help the library maintain its services after the huge funding cut from the county commissioners,” Haubert said in a news release. “They are counting on the community for their support.”
