DVAA Garden Party Fundraiser
COCHECTON — The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) invites you to its Summer Garden Party, a magical evening under the stars on Saturday, August 30 at Ladybug Land, a private artist-hosted garden in Cochecton Center, NY.
As the summer winds down, this festive outdoor gathering offers a chance to soak in the season’s final golden hour with farm-to-table dining, live music, handcrafted cocktails, a big bonfire, and a curated auction of one-of-a-kind local experiences, all in support of DVAA’s work sustaining the arts and culture of the region.
The evening will feature a vibrant, locally inspired menu crafted by celebrated chef Mercedes Golip, founder of the Casa Masa Project. Based in Bethel, NY, Mercedes draws on her Venezuelan heritage and a deep understanding of maize’s cultural significance to create dishes that are rich in story and flavor. Her cooking blends time-honored techniques with peak-season ingredients from the region, resulting in a meal that’s as soulful as it is unforgettable. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, America’s Test Kitchen, and Edible Brooklyn, among others.
Ladybug Land, lovingly cared for by local artists, offers the perfect setting: a landscape of open fields, tucked-away nooks, and creative touches that reflect DVAA’s values of imagination, hospitality, and connection to place.
Proceeds from the Garden Party help power DVAA’s year-round exhibitions, performances, and community festivals, including Riverfest and the Big Eddy Film Festival (September 25-28), while also supporting DVAA’s role in administering over $100,000 in arts funding to individual artists and local arts organizations across the region in 2025.
Attending guests won’t just enjoy a beautiful evening, they actively help sustain the region’s cultural ecosystem—a place shaped by artists, makers, and independent thinkers—and gather with others who believe in the power of the arts to enrich everyday life.
The event will take place at a private artist residence, located at 13 Old County Road, Cochecton, NY 12726.
Tickets may be purchased by calling 845-252-7576 or online at delawarevalleyartsalliance.org/garden.

Congregation To Hold BBQ
HONESDALE — The Congregation is holding a prospective member BBQ and will offer tours of the historic building on Friday, August 22 at 6:30 p.m. followed by Shabbat services at 7:30 p.m. at 615 Court Street in Honesdale.
Congregation Beth Israel, Honesdale, PA, recently celebrated its 175th anniversary. In September of 1849 eleven men met in a small home on Main Street in Honesdale, Pa. In the kerosene light, they pledged to form a Jewish congregation and to hold services for members of the Jewish faith. Eight years later, in September 1856, the first services were held in the congregation’s new building on Court Street.
More than 175 years later, Congregation Beth Israel is the oldest continually operating synagogue in America still in its original building, and descendants of three of the original 11 families remain involved with the congregation. Today, the sounds of young people talking and learning fill the pews, as do the songs and prayers of the small Jewish community that has endured on the site for nearly two centuries.
For information or to RSVP email [email protected] or call 570-253-2222.

MILFORD MOONS: Book-Lover’s Scholarship & Fundraising Event
MILFORD — Internationally renowned author and Milford Readers & Writers Festival Editorial Director Richard C. Morais will be launching his latest book, Milford Moons: A writer’s visual love letter to his ancestral village, with a book signing and fundraising exhibit of related photographs. This joyous and special event will take place June 7th between 12 – 2 pm at the historic and beautiful Hotel Fauchère at 401 Broad Street, Milford, Pa. 18337.
An award-winning Forbes and Barron’s business-journalist veteran, and the New York Times best-selling author of The Hundred-Foot Journey novel that was made into a major Hollywood film, Richard is also the fourth generation of his family to live in the village. Milford Moons, a coffee table book filled with over 250 photographs, is a moody and atmospheric celebration of his nightly ramblings through town with his dogs, visually capturing the mysterious, timeless, and deep connections he has with this Eastern Pennsylvanian village.
The book launch’s attending exhibit will showcase throughout the summer 20 hand-picked, limited edition (1/10) photographs from the book in the entry hall of the hotel. A generous portion from the sales of these framed and signed prints will be donated to the Pike Artworks “Book-Lovers Scholarship” that he is establishing on behalf of the Milford Readers & Writers Festival held this year on September 12th - 14th.
Aware that the festival’s passes are not affordable for some, Richard decided to spearhead a fund to purchase tickets that can be donated to deserving book lovers who would like to attend but otherwise could not. To that end, 25% of the profits from the sale of the framed prints will go to this
worthy case.
The public is invited to the free event to meet the author for this, the first (hot off the press) book-signing and art exhibit in the stately Hotel Fauchère.

NPS issues Delaware River Safety Advisory for May 9-11
BUSHKILL — Due to rising water levels in the Delaware River, the National Park Service (NPS) at Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area announced today that the river and all access points within the park will be closed until levels recede below 15’ at the Montague, NJ gauge. The river is expected to crest at just under 17’ on Saturday evening but could rise even higher depending on precipitation amounts and locations. Minor river flooding, which is not expected, starts when the river reaches 23’ at this gauge.
Isolated flash flooding of creeks and streams is possible, and motorists are encouraged to drive with caution, especially in low lying areas and areas of poor drainage due to stormwater runoff and ponding on the roadways.
Park rangers note that when the river rises to these levels, hazardous conditions increase. Higher river levels bring swifter and stronger currents, reduced visibility, colder water temperatures, increased sediment, and debris. Submerged trees and vegetation on shorelines and islands can catch vessels and people entrapping them in what rangers refer to as a “strainer.” Swift water rescue operations in these conditions also become extremely dangerous for emergency responders.
Once the river and access points reopen, a properly fitted and fastened, US Coast Guard-approved lifejacket must be worn at all times by all individuals in any type of vessel until river levels drop below 8’.
River levels can be monitored at Delaware River at Montague (noaa.gov).
For more information on Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area call (570) 426-2452; visit our website at www.nps.gov/dewa; or follow on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/DelWaterGapNPS.
