The old real estate saying is that a kitchen and the primary bedroom are the selling features of a house. Of course, that presumes that location, size, price, style, and general condition already have been considered.

“My observation on kitchens is that in showing property, this is one of the first rooms a potential buyer will go to. If it is first class, that sets the tone for the rest of the showing,” says John Harney of William Pitt Sotheby’s. “So it certainly is important to have a well-equipped kitchen for resale value!”

Founded by Erica Price in 2012, SPAF is a family-owned venue space in Saugerties, NY, operated by the dynamic partnership of Erica and her son, Joshua Price. “Together, we bring two perspectives and a shared passion to every event we host,” reflects Joshua gratefully.

The venue is housed in a reclaimed early-1900s industrial notebook factory where the F.L. Russell Corporation used to operate. The corporation, which opened its doors at the site in 1936, was well-known “for its iconic ‘composition’ notebooks with the mottled black and white covers, along with stationery and paper products,” according to SPAF’s about page. “A historic setting, couples can add their own chapter to the property’s long and storied history.”

“When Ryan and I first started dreaming about working together, we always said, ‘Maybe one day we’ll end up back in the Berkshires.’ It just felt like home – the pace, the culture, the people who care deeply about food, art, and nature. So when the opportunity to join Cello came up in Lenox, it felt like the stars aligned,” said Kim Boya, partner and general manager at Cello, located in Lenox, MA.

How did a couple from eastern Long Island seeking a place to retire create an ice cream shop in Sheffield?

Raven: We were contemplating a life change and knew that we wanted a quieter, rural life not too far from family. We sold our house in Calverton, NY, and bought a house here in December 2022. Travelling back and forth on Route 7, Lee noticed a “For Sale” sign on this long-vacant building. He was looking for something different to do. The local owner had previously run a business here with her husband and had even imagined running an ice cream shop. She liked the idea of a couple running a business together, and we bought the property. After a substantial renovation, we opened a year later on Memorial Day, 2024. We were well received.

Erick Johnson’s work narrates rich surface textures, layered chromatic decisions, and an intuitive approach to composition. He creates paintings that are simultaneously architectural and emotional, intimate and expansive. Johnson’s works are a study in contrasts: finely flat surfaces carry the memory of earlier paint layers pushed and pulled, while negative space winds a whispered line through overlapping color fields. Movement and light crossed the surface, much like looking out of a speeding train, where, at times, the image outside can blur when captured through a lens.

“Sherri and I love all of the pretty things that make a house a home – a great scented candle, a gorgeous coffee table book, a charming tablecloth – and we found that there wasn’t anything like that in Chatham,” Melissa Davis said of the inspiration to open her new shop with Sherri Marton in Chatham, NY. The shop, Marton & Davis, officially opened its doors on June 26.

On June 23, Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research will be hosting their Young Professionals Committee’s Young Angels Gala at 7pm. The event, which will be held at New York City’s Crane Club, will be hosted by Fox5 News Anchor Bianca Peters. Honorees include Cantor Fitzgerald, L.P. executive vice chairman and director of Newmark Group, Inc. Kyle Lutnick, who is a longtime supporter of the foundation, and Coty USA ultra-luxury skincare and fragrance general manager Andrea DiNunzio.

Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research is an organization that was first founded in 1996 by Denise Rich to honor her daughter Gabrielle Rich Aouad’s final wish following her passing at the tragically young age of 27 years old. As the foundation’s website states, the foundation created in her honor would “invest in research for better treatments for leukemia, so people would not have to suffer from the side effects and damage of chemotherapy and radiation.”

Denise Rich emphasizes the importance of the Young Angels Gala event: “Our young professionals are the hope for the future. Their passion, purpose, and drive ensure that the legacy of love and the pursuit of a cancer free future lives on. My daughter, Gabrielle, would be so proud.”
