“Middle” position has always been my go to, to advocate for my dog in a tight space.

It’s simple, if you don’t know the dogs name.

Do not touch the dog.

Luckily, Kulu is VERY confident and recovered quickly!

From now on, with fieldtrips. I will work my dogs, bring them back to the car and then go back inside to make s purchase.

Thursday Pack ❄️

🙏 This week made me, realize and remember. That life is short.

You never know what is around the corner.

This week, one of my solid ⚓️’s and my best lab, Reko. Came out to pack on Tuesday and showed signs of discomfort with the cold. 🥶

It makes me gasp, and hold my breathe. He came back out on pack today, and was rolling in the snow gleefully just his normal self!

The temperature 🤒 was definitely warmer today. But as I get older I need to remember some of my favorite friends are too. We all are getting wrinkles and slowing down in different ways.

We lost some beautiful souls this year and I worry and think of my friends that are home bc they have injuries. Like Abby who has been off pack for 2 months. This is the longest stretch that I havent seen her for in 8 years.

You just never know, health changes, we age.

But moments like these make me so thankful to see my friends stomping and rolling in the snow.

Beware when there’s an advertisement for “advanced and fast” results are guaranteed.

Tyler Muto hits this spot on!

Fast Training = Surpression and most definitely an extinction burst of behavior! 💥

Fast training 💨
Fast Education 💨

It might be speedy, the ex*****on is rushed.

Rushing = errors.

When trainers hit a wall with a difficult dog, the instinct is to assume something’s missing - some secret technique or special sequence that more experienced trainers know. That belief sends them searching outward: another seminar, another online course, another tool to add to the belt.

But most breakthroughs don’t come from adding new layers. They come from deepening our understanding of the layers we already have. The fundamentals are rarely what fail us; it’s our inconsistency in applying them.

Mastery doesn’t live in hidden secrets. It lives in refinement.
In the patience to repeat simple mechanics until they’re invisible.
In the curiosity to question why a method works rather than just how.
In the humility to revisit first principles even years into a career.

When trainers don’t have a real relationship with a client’s dog, we should not be the ones doing the training for them.

I don’t have an inch of relationship with Maple. Relationship is what builds confidence and trust. If I were to correct Maple for this behavior, I could actually damage her trust in strangers.

When you correct a dog you don’t have a relationship with, you can suppress their emotions. They might look “better” in the moment, but in the long term you often see bigger behavior issues show up down the road.

This is why I focus on training the owners to work with their own dogs, not just “fixing” the dog for them.

“My dog is stubborn.”

No, how you are teaching the dog is not giving clairty.

Study this video.

Watch Jess’s body language and Verbal cues.

Going to fast, handlers often rush and try to grab the cookie before the verbal cue even comes out of our mouths.

That is called “ simultaneously” teaching.

However it’s not “clean” the verbal cue isn’t the conditioned response. The body language will be.

When the body language isn’t in the dogs “picture” the verbal cue will not have as strong as an response as we desire.

Build value in the verbal cue’s by slowing down, allowing a mental gap so your dog can process:

“Yes” = Cookie

Not 🚫

“Yes” = Human grabbing cookie and racing to my face.
