As students head back to school on August 10, 2026, we're asking our community to think about online safety before sharing those first-day photos.

While these moments are exciting to celebrate, the information on a back-to-school sign can sometimes reveal more than intended.

Before posting, remember:
✔️ Share the smile.
✔️ Share the excitement.
✔️ Protect the personal details.

Please avoid including your child's full name, school, teacher, or other identifying information. A simple sign with the grade and school year is all you need to celebrate the occasion safely.

The photos below are a great example of what to avoid and a safer alternative.

PUBLIC ASSISTANCE REQUEST – MILTON POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Milton Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a young child who was located wandering unaccompanied in a neighborhood in Milton near Peachtree St/ Applegate St. A check of the immediate area and nearby local residences was unsuccessful in identifying his guardians.

The child is an approximately 18–24-month-old male toddler, with brown hair and brown eyes.
If you recognize this child or have information that may help us identify and locate his parent, guardian, or family member, please contact the Milton Police Department (850-983-5420) as soon as possible.

Our priority is ensuring this child is safely reunited with his family.

Please share this post to help us reach the child’s family. Once the child's parents or caregivers are located, the image of the child will be removed from this post, and an update will be provided.

SCHOOL EMPLOYEE MISCONDUCT HEARING

Santa Rosa County District Schools is awaiting a state judge's determination in a Division of Administrative Hearings case between the district and a suspended IT employee of the district.

In August 2025, Keith Elliott, the employee, was suspended. In September 2025, the school board upheld the suspension but didn't decide on terminating Elliott's employment.

The matter was sent to the Division of Administrative Hearings, a state agency which adjudicates disputes between governments and their employees.

On July 31, the district petitioned the judge in the case to find they have just cause for suspending and terminating Elliott.

Elliott has denied allegations made against him, which included using a Facebook account under a fictitious name to publicly embarrass students and inappropriate communication with students.
