Jazz in the Park, a summertime Milwaukee tradition. I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to capture this summer staple but we finally got it. While I feel Cathedral Square lost some of its sparkle a few years ago with the closing of Flannery’s, Mikey’s, This Is It, and Louise’s, I finally feel like the areas bouncing back stronger with the opening of Electric Lime, Your Office, Until Mae, the new boutique hotel, Il Ponte and the Vig opening up nearby. I’ve always envisioned Cathedral Square as our own little Bryant Park, a place where you can grab coffee or a bite and just enjoy the urban built environment surrounding you. Have you check out Jazz yet this year?

August 19th is World Photography Day. Here are a couple of my favorite shots from the last year or so. There’s a heavy emphasis on my home of Milwaukee, Wisconsin but also a few from Thailand. Everyone has a camera on them these days making it so easy to share their perspective of the world around them. The biggest advice I’d give anyone starting off in photography is to make sure to take the time to appreciate what you’re shooting and the people you’re with while you’re at it. What’s your favorite thing you’ve shot this year? 📸

You know fall is coming when you see Milwaukee Bucks and the rest of the NBA dropping the 2026-2027 schedules. While things are going to look a little different on the court this season, it will still be great to get back inside Fiserv Forum again. It’s exciting to see the next phases of the Deer District continue to move forward as well with the Fieldhouse Flats development by Jeffers & Co. and the AC Hotel by NCG Hospitality both under construction. 🏗️
Are you excited about the upcoming NBA season or still sour about the Giannis trade?

Is it just me or has this week flown by?! It’s hard to believe it’s already been one week since Art Blaze by Joy Engine returned to the South Shore. Last week things shifted out of the sand and onto dry land and the reviews were great. Bay View folks showed up in numbers to listen to the live music and interactive art. While the event was definitely harder to capture, it was really cool to see the neighborhood rally around the event and make it their own. Do you think our friends at Joy Engine should take Art Blaze on the road? Which neighborhoods/parks would you like to see activated in the future?
The last one of the season returns to McKinley Beach next Thursday from 4-9. Hope to see you there! 🏖️ 🔥 🫧

I love it when the lighting on the historic Milwaukee Gas Light Building matches the sky. While a ton of more modern towers have risen around it the Gas Light Building still makes its presence known downtown. The 21-foot flame resting atop the building was added in 1956, and acts as a navigational beacon for Lake Michigan and a visual local weather forecast. Does anyone know what the different colors mean?

Here are a couple more stills from this weekend’s USA Triathlon National Championships where thousands of athletes took to our waterways and roads to compete. Whether you participated or just went down to check things out, it was really cool to see our lakefront used this way. It makes me really proud to call Milwaukee home. I love the shots of the swimmers sitting along the edge of Discovery World .

Last night I was rolling out to the Third Ward’s Moon Festival when I noticed the sky started glowing from the west. I understood the assignment. I ran back inside to grab the bird and captured these shots of our beautiful skyline. Which shot is your favorite? I can only imagine what images look like from Edelweiss Boats last night.

The Third Ward Moon Festival is finally here marking 50 years of the Historic Third Ward Association. The free event will transform the Historic Third Ward into a luminous, open-air celebration of art, community, and creativity. The moon serves as a stunning anchor to the 3-day festival and was created by artist Luke Jerram . Last night, I took the opportunity to snap some shots before the crowds roll in later today. I think the moon looks pretty cool there. What do you think? 🌕
