I keep thinking the same thing today.

“Wow…this is really happening.”

For months this was just conversations, paperwork, waiting, and wondering if it was all going to come together.

Now it’s shelves getting moved, inventory getting sorted, storage units getting filled, and a space we’ve been in for three years slowly getting emptied out.

The funny thing is I thought this part would be harder…It hasn’t been.

I think that’s because mentally I’ve already been onto the next chapter for a while.

We still a ton of work ahead.

We still have to finish the move.

We still have to close on the building.

We still have to move everything in, get organized, build systems, and create the infrastructure I’ve wanted for years.

That’s the part I’m most excited about!!!

Not another storefront.

Not more square footage.

The ability to build a better foundation for where BC Modern is headed next.

Today is one of those days where it stopped feeling like an idea and started feeling real.

It’s happening!!

Times have changed!

Seven years ago I was sitting BC Modern talking about giving up every weekend to build something.

At the time, I didn’t know exactly where it would lead.

I just knew I believed in what we were building.

This video popped up in my memories and reminded me how easy it is to look at someone’s life now and completely miss the years that came before it.

The sacrifices usually aren’t visible once the result is.

I don’t miss giving up every weekend.

But I’m grateful for what those weekends built.

The older I get, the more I realize that freedom is usually purchased long before you ever get to enjoy it.

I know I can pursue more opportunities.
But now I’m asking a different question.

I’ve realized there’s a difference between accumulating inventory and curating inventory.

Accumulating is easy! If something has value, you bring it home.

Curating is a bit harder.
Curating requires standards.

Over the last few months I’ve been touching almost everything that’s come through my warehouse over the last three years.

Here’s the thing…a lot of it isn’t bad inventory. A lot of it would sell and would make money.

But that’s different than asking whether it continues to deserve space.

That’s been one of the biggest shifts for me.

I used to buy things because I could the potential to sell them.

Now I’m more interested in buying things that belong in the kind of business/life I’m trying to build.
