Oct 29, 2025 - As the nation faces the second-longest federal government shutdown in United States history, millions of Americans are experiencing economic hardship. Among them are more than 1.2 million federal workers and their families who have gone over 30 days without pay.
In response, Presiding Bishop J. Drew Sheard—Chairman of the Board of COGIC Charities and Presiding Bishop of the Church Of God In Christ—has launched Bridging The Gap: COGIC Charities Federal Worker Relief Fund.
The Church Of God In Christ has designed this compassionate emergency program to aid its members who are federal employees impacted by the shutdown. COGIC Charities has set aside funds to support the first 250 families who complete the online application at www.cogic.org or by scanning the provided QR code. Each applicant will need to provide a copy of their furlough letter with their application.
The funding is a first-come, first-served initiative, and while resources are limited, the impact will be meaningful for families in immediate need.
“We understand that this crisis has left many faithful workers without income and without certainty,” said Presiding Bishop J. Drew Sheard. “Through COGIC Charities, we are stepping in to bridge the gap—to demonstrate Christ’s love in action and to help carry one another until this storm passes.”
The Bridging The Gap Relief Fund reflects COGIC’s enduring commitment to service, compassion, and practical ministry. When paychecks stop, faith responds.
