Massive thanks to a number of reviews of our new records in the last week or so from various sources (links below).

"Never the Same River is actually the strongest Seabuckthorn album to date, as these beautifully immersive, evocative, and sublime pieces feel like a series of scenes from a haunted and psychedelic Western set deep in the Australian outback or somewhere similarly desolate and devoid of humans"
Brainwashed - Anthony D'Amico
www.brainwashed.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=33243&catid=101&Itemid=855

"The atmospheres are strikingly hybrid, blending Americana (Troubled Spirits Be Gone) with Eastern undertones (His Mind Was a Blizzard) and ancestral echoes (Where There’s Smoke); they converge on ambient paths characterized by a sense of rarefaction (Spinning Totem) and even incorporate post-classical leanings (The Encompassing)"

"What makes Never the Same River particularly compelling is the way it resists easy categorisation. Elements of Americana, ritualistic folk, chamber music, drone and minimalist composition coexist without any sense of contradiction (...) In an era where so much ambient and experimental music can feel detached or overly polished, Never the Same River remains tactile and human. Every creak, scrape and resonance contributes to the atmosphere. The music feels lived-in rather than constructed."

Big thanks to The Stillness and the Dancing for including Daniël Jolan and Seabuckthorn in this new show!

Continuing to trek through my particular season of the unexpected, I've made it through to the final round of chemotherapy. But here in the week between, I have collected some highlights in fresh sounds, fresh breezes (in these blistering summer days) and drifting melodies to keep you napping in you...

𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐳𝐣𝐚: Seabuckthorn – Never The Same River // Marek "Lokis" Nawrot

Na Never The Same River strunowce jak: gitara akustyczna, saz, banjo, autoharp, taishogoto czy skrzypce wciąż odgrywają imponująca rolę to jednak słychać tu pewne nawiązanie do wczesnego okresu i większego zaangażowania struktur rytmicznych w całość.

Looking back ten years and realizing how spoiled we were with music reviews, getting 10 to 15 per album seemed normal. Nowadays it feels like a lost art. Very grateful for the folks who still give their time to this medium.

Getting to hear Marc Masters speak to Corrado Maria De Santis new album with his newly founded Good Experimental Music site, or the in-depth takes from Bob Baker Fish and the newer Italian review site, Tuie were a pleasure to read. Also great to read Peter Van Cooten and Sonofmarketing - Unknown Music Pleasures mini-reviews.

"Never The Same River is such a weird, beautiful and experimental album. It’s so distinctive and so personal, which is probably why its so coherent. You can immediately hear that it’s something different, but it may take some time to realise how special it truly is." - (Bob Baker Fish) CYCLIC DEFROST https://www.cyclicdefrost.com/2026/06/seabuckthorn-never-the-same-river-lost-tribe-sound/

"Threshold of Light is an apt title for an album of purely liminal sound spaces, the kind of music that feels so untraceable it might as well be a spectre." - (Marc Masters) GOOD EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC https://www.goodexperimentalmusic.com/good-experimental-music-may-2026/

"One question remains, the one Cartwright leaves in your hand like a river stone: if you step twice into the same record, is it no longer the same record — or are you no longer you? Never the Same River chooses not to answer, and it is right to." - (Antonio Martellotta) TUIE. https://www.tuie.lt/en/review-seabuckthorn-never-the-same-river

"The album unfolds across elongated structures where low-frequency drones, diffused harmonics, and minimal melodic traces are organized around gradual temporal expansion through near-imperceptible shifts in density and tonal coloration." - (Nicola Orlandino) SON OF MARKETING https://www.sonofmarketing.com/2026/05/17/streaming-daniel-jolan-sublime-lenteur/

"Through the music (subtly mastered by Ian Hawgood) this moment of day can almost literally be felt." - (Peter Van Cooten) AMBIENTBLOG https://www.ambientblog.net/desantis

Massive thanks to James Osland at wallofambient for this review of the recently released album from Yoal (Satomimagae & Euan Millar-McMeeken). Don't get reviews like this very often these days, so it means even more.

"Gloaming feels genuinely alive. It is intimate without becoming sentimental, cinematic without excess, and emotionally devastating without ever needing to raise its voice. An album of immense subtlety and quiet power, it lingers long after it ends"

Gloaming, the collaborative project between Scottish composer Euan Millar McMeeken and Japanese musician Satomi Magae, exists in that fragile space between memory and disappearance — the place wher…
