On Arlington Place in Milwaukee's Lower The East Side neighborhood, a vibrant purple house quietly tells the story of Milwaukee's past — and its future.

The three-story home, built in 1880 and located at 1751 N. Arlington Place, a block and a half north of Brady Street, is now a micro hotel called Lake Effect Club. Micro hotels offer compact rooms designed for intimate comfort.

The name for the hotel was born of the idea that "it's always cooler by the lake," said Lizz Wasserman, co-owner of Lake Effect Club and former creative executive at Mattel Inc.
