Rotten Cotton Candy is excited to announce that we finally have a band manager, welcome Medusa Dawn to the crew! When we were working on re-branding in early 2025, before we even had a full set list she was there already cheering us on wanting to put our 1st show together for us. She has ALWAYS followed through on her word, has never been disrespectful towards us and always has had our best interest in mind. We believe she has the knowledge and resources to provide structure to our chaos and take us to the next level!

For those on the outside looking in, the ongoing lawsuit between UMG, Sony, and Suno probably looks like “major labels fighting AI.”

But for Independent labels like Rock Sun Records, this fight directly affects us too.

Virgin Music Group, our distribution partner, is the independent distribution arm of Universal Music Group. That means this lawsuit is not just about protecting massive household-name artists. It’s also about defending independent labels, independent musicians, and every artist family connected through distribution systems like ours.

That matters.

One of the reasons we’ve been so proud to work with Virgin Music Group is because they have continued to stand behind artists and the value of real music created by real people.

While Warner Music chose to settle their portion of this lawsuit and partner with Suno, I personally hope UMG stays the course and fights this all the way through. In my opinion, companies built on scraping and repurposing the hard work of musicians without proper permission or compensation should not become the future of this industry.

There is also a class action lawsuit currently being handled by Delgado Entertainment Law on behalf of independent artists. Many of you will probably recognize them as Top Music Attorney from YouTube. So if you're an Independent Artist who self distributes through DIY platforms, this is where to go and join the fight.

Make no mistake:
Now is the time to fight like hell for independent artists, songwriters, and creators.

The future of music cannot belong to machines trained on stolen art.

A lot of people probably don’t know this, but I actually listen to every single submission that comes through Rock Sun Records. Every demo, every track, you name it, I hear it.

That also means I’m the one sending out all those rejection emails each month. Honestly, that’s the hardest part. Anyone who knows me knows I’m not the type to want to disappoint anyone. I get that every song isn’t just a file it’s someone’s late nights, their hustle, their dream. I don’t ever lose sight of that.

On average, we get anything between 50 to 100 submissions per month. Because of this reason, it takes a month or more before I get a chance to even listen to something submitted.

If I hear any possible signs of interest, then I ask my team to go through the background A&R process to know if there is any chance to move further with the collaboration.

But at the end of the day, the big question I always ask is simple: Do I genuinely feel like this artist could be part of our family? If I do, I reach out myself.

So if you’ve submitted and you’re waiting to hear back, just know—it can take a while, sometimes longer than you’d hope. I promise, we’re listening. I’m listening.

To every artist who’s sent us something: thank you for trusting us with your work. Even if we’re not the right home for your music, your story matters, and this isn’t the end.
