We helped with a documentary filmmaking workshop for students at Nō Studios a few months back. Our focus was on racial disparity in, police use of force, and the criminal justice system. I was surprised to hear that no one in the room had seen this film. So happy the team made this available to the public. Erik Ljung & team, thank you. 🙏🏼

This could be the end of the movie theater experience as we know it. We could see this become the formula for all blockbuster releases for the foreseeable future...and once we open Pandora’s box, how will we convince consumers to go back to the movie theaters when they can rent from the comfort of their couch on an opening Friday evening?

I would argue it’s a long time coming, and the circumstances call for social distancing, but it’s still sad to see. Honestly, this might be why the theater chains are so reluctant to shut down.

With the spreading coronavirus pandemic forcing movie theaters to close, Comcast is breaking with tradition and making a number of movies available to watch at home.

I don’t usually like to get too political, too emotional, too ANYTHING on social media, but in light of these once in a century events we’re about to walk through I would like to share a few words on the arts…and life!

This morning we were suppose to start three new casting calls that are now canceled. While the shutdowns and cancelations have been happening across many industries for days now, today, this Monday morning, is when it really hit me. It seems the reality is most of our country will likely shutdown for at least 4-8 weeks while we try to slow the spread of COVID-19. Regardless of whether you believe it to be necessary or not, it’s happening.

So where does that leave us? Lots, but not many, will be able to continue their work from home, but in our industry, the entertainment industry, productions and live performances have been completely shutdown. Possibly even worse, and as it is for myself, many artists supplement their income with service industry jobs, such as waiting and bartending, which is now being shutdown as well.

It is horrible to think that ANYONE will be out of work. I know many that don’t know what they’re going to do to pay rent, bills, and put food on their tables in the coming weeks-months. COVID-19 has highlighted possibly larger issues than the disease itself…like, why is everyone living paycheck to paycheck in the United States of America? I hope our government comes up with a solid plan to tackle all of these issues, not just with the present situation, but preparedness for the future as well.

Maybe we come out on top, better from this. Hopefully we can calm this thing in 4-8 weeks. Maybe we learn a little something about human dignity, taking care of one another, and doing the right thing. Doing the positive thing. But while you sit at home, hopefully with loved ones, take a moment to reflect. Reflect on your life. Reflect of your happiness. Reflect on your dreams. Enjoy that last season of Stranger Things you missed. And next time you find yourself face to face with a waiter or bartender, tip them better, and thank them for their contribution to the arts (because why else would one be involved with something as horrible as the service industry 😉)…they’re “starving” because they need to create, but you’re the one consuming their energy. One love. ❤️
