My heart is heavy today.
Yesterday morning, the music community lost an incredible drummer and an even better human being. Jeff Marlewski, former drummer and founder of Shelly Mack and The ReUnion passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
The scene will never sound quite the same without him behind the kit, keeping the beat and bringing that energy only he could bring.
Every time I saw Jeff, he asked how the podcast was going. He was genuinely interested, genuinely supportive, and always happy to stop and talk music. In a world where people are often in a hurry, Jeff always made time for people. That kindness is something I'll remember.
My heart also breaks for Dawn, one of my favorite Metal Chicks. Through every challenge, every setback, every difficult day, she stood beside him with incredible strength, love, and devotion. Anyone who knows Dawn knows how much she has given to the music community. She has spent years supporting musicians, venues, bands, and friends, often behind the scenes and without expecting anything in return.
Jeff and Dawn weren't just a couple. They were part of the fabric of our local music scene. Seeing one almost always meant seeing the other. Their love, friendship, and support of the community touched so many lives.
I hope Jeff knew just how much he was loved and respected. And I hope Dawn knows she isn't carrying this loss alone. So many of us are holding her close in our hearts and standing beside her during this difficult time.
Keep drumming, Jeff. The beat goes on because of people like you.
Rest easy, my friend. ๐๐ถ
