The Record-Courier has been serving the Carson Valley community in Northern Nevada since July of 1880 when Boynton Carlisle changed the name of the Carson Valley News to the Genoa Weekly Courier before being run out of town four months later. The newspaper moved to Gardnerville in 1899, where it competed with the newly founded Gardnerville Record. The newspapers merged after the Record burned down

in April 1904. The newspaper, now based in Minden, Nev., is a member of the Nevada News Group, which consists of several newspapers and associated Web sites, including the Nevada Appeal, Northern Nevada Business Weekly, Winnemucca Sun, Lovelock Miner, Battle Mountain Bugle and Lahontan Valley News.

Saturday May 17: We have raised the Red Flag: Unfortunately all balloon activities for today have been canceled. As you likely already know, the wind is strong and is forecast to get stronger throughout the morning. Our food vendors are open, please give them a visit! Our Story

The Record-Courier has been serving the Carson Valley community in Northern Nevada since July 1880 when Boynton Carlisle started the Genoa Weekly Courier. That eventually became the Gardnerville Courier and subsequently The Record-Courier in April 1904. The newspaper, based in Gardnerville, Nev., is a member of the Sierra Nevada Media Group, which consists of several newspapers and associated websites, including the Nevada Appeal, Northern Nevada Business View, Lahontan Valley News, and Tahoe Daily Tribune. The group also owns and operates Tahoe.com and Everything Nevada, as well as specialty publications and commercial print divisions.

Swift Communications is the parent company of Sierra Nevada Media Group, based in Carson City.
