Lead defense attorney Michael Brown revealed Heuermann is struggling behind bars; his daughter Victoria and ex-wife Asa Ellerup appeared followed by a documentary film crew; and Judge Timothy Mazzei dealt two more losses to the defense team โ€” who have a plan to fight back.

On Sept. 11 of last year โ€” exactly 23 years after working at Ground Zero โ€” retired NYPD Emergency Service worker William Giammarino took his first unassisted breath with new lungs.

The Holbrook man, who served at the World Trade Center site for months after 9/11, battled worsening COPD for years and was turned away from other hospitals. One year ago, he finally received a life-saving double lung transplant at North Shore University Hospital.

Giammarino can finally breathe again โ€” and hopes his story inspires other 9/11 responders to seek care.
