One of the best ways to support an author costs nothing.

Leave a review.

Reviews are more than stars on a page. They give prospective readers a glimpse into another reader’s experience with a book—and can help someone decide whether that book might be right for them. Amazon specifically describes reviews as a way for readers to learn what others think before making a purchase, while Goodreads encourages honest reviews that help readers discover their next book.

And writing one doesn’t have to be intimidating.

You don’t need to summarize the book. You don’t need to sound like a professional reviewer. Simply share something genuine:

What did you love? What surprised you? What stayed with you after you finished? Who do you think would enjoy this book?

Even two or three thoughtful sentences are enough.

So the next time you finish a book you enjoyed—especially one by an independent author—take another minute and leave a review. You’re not just telling the author you enjoyed their book. You’re helping the next reader find it.

Thanks to author Patricia Skalka, Little Creek Press was front and center at 's famous Printers Row Lit Fest 2026, Sept. 12 &13. She showcased her well-known mystery series along with our book, Skalka's first novella, StarSong, at the Society of Midland Authors' booth. Available from your favorite book retailer or littlecreekpress.com, the tender coming-of-age story is a meditation on joy, heartbreak, and the invisible ties that hold us together even across the distance between life and death.

Yesterday was a beautiful day at St. Isidore’s Dairy celebrating the release of Unpasteurized Inga: Recipes and Reflections on Food, Farming, and Finding Your Way Back.

We couldn’t have asked for a better setting—or a better turnout. It was wonderful to see so many people come out to support Inga, celebrate the book, and share in a day that felt every bit as special as this project.

Inga was surrounded by family, friends, readers, and members of the farming and food community, and the love for her—and for the stories behind this book—was easy to feel.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the launch such a memorable one.

And this is only the beginning. Inga will be out and about in the weeks and months ahead, so be sure to follow the Little Creek Press page and keep an eye on our posts for upcoming appearances, events, and opportunities to meet Inga and pick up a signed copy of Unpasteurized Inga.

What a wonderful way to kick things off! 📚❤️

Inga Orth celebrated her first event for Unpasteurized Inga this evening in Eau Claire—and what a great turnout! We loved seeing so many people come out to hear Inga, celebrate the book, and be part of the beginning of its journey into the world.

And good news for our Eau Claire-area friends: you can pick up your own copy of Unpasteurized Inga right there at the store! Stop in, support local, and take home Inga’s collection of stories and recipes rooted in farming, resilience, and finding your way back.

Some books have a life far beyond their publication date. 💙💛

More than a decade ago, Little Creek Press published Becky Carey's 47 Strings: Tessa’s Special Code, a picture book created to help children understand Down syndrome through the story of Tessa and her “47 strings.”

Today, 47 Strings continues to do exactly what Becky only dreamed it would do: help siblings, grandparents, friends, classmates, and entire families better understand and celebrate a child with Down syndrome.

One of the most meaningful examples is Jack's Basket, an organization that celebrates babies with Down syndrome and equips families with resources and support. Jack’s Basket includes 47 Strings in the baskets it sends to families around the world!

Just think about that. Thousands and thousands of copies of Tessa’s story have made their way into the homes of new families through this remarkable organization alone.

And the reach continues.

More than a decade after publication, 47 Strings continues to appear among resources and recommended reading from organizations including Boston Children’s Hospital, the National Down Syndrome Society, the Council for Exceptional Children, Down Syndrome Connection of Northwest Arkansas, Down syndrome organizations across the country, and the Waisman Center at University of Wisconsin-Madison.

We often talk about giving books a life beyond their launch. This is what that looks like.
