WIP — learning as I go!
I don’t normally share many works in progress, but this one has taught me way too much not to. ❤️
I’ve been experimenting more with layers and glazing—not only in the background, but on the duck itself. Building those blues, greens, warm chest colors and all those little feather details one layer at a time has really shown me how much depth can develop as a painting progresses.
I’m learning that sometimes a color doesn’t need to be completely repainted—it just needs another layer, a glaze, or a small adjustment to what’s already there. That has been a BIG lightbulb moment for me.
And that background? At one point, we were NOT friends. 😂 It definitely went through the “what have I done?” stage before the warm golden layers and glazing finally on the way to pulling everything together.
I’m learning to trust the process, trust the layers, and accept that sometimes the ugly stage really is just part of getting to the good stuff.
Still so much more to do- especially on my duck, but I’m pretty excited about where this little Wood Duck is headed. 🦆🍂
