Historically, angry women have been frowned upon regardless of the race. However the relationship between Black women and anger is…conflicted, to say the least. To be angry is to be irrational, aggressive, domineering, ill mannered and ill tempered. It’s a controlling stereotype to keep up silent and docile. It’s a stereotype used to dismiss our issues, concerns, passions and our justified anger.
I say all of this to say…maybe you’re not sad, maybe you’re angry. Maybe you’re not depressed (please consult with a professional). Maybe you’re pi**ed off and you’ve been silencing yourself because you don’t want to be the Angry Black Woman. Maybe you’re tired of laughing off the little microaggressions from your little friends who say that they’ve been allies (all their lives). Maybe you don’t want to hold in the primal scream over knowing that you are the least respected, last promoted, most overworked, and least paid despite being the most educated (I have the references).
Maybe you’re just angry because you now understand Nora Zeale Hurston when she wrote that the Black women “is the mule uh de world”
Maybe you’re just, angry. Maybe, you’re just plain pi**ed off - and despite what this world says, it’s okay to be angry. You have every right to be angry. Your anger is completely justifiable. The world knows it because an Angry Black Woman is a fierce and powerful and moves mountains.
Be angry. Scream. Shout. Yell. Cry. Emote. Feel all the feels. Be angry.
An Angry Black woman makes the impossible, possible. 💜
