Consistently centering the national discourse around the next election is a serious distraction from the real progress we should be making as a nation and people. This distraction has led to governments backing down on some great initiatives in the past that were accompanied by temporary pains but would've to long-term growth. It has harbored continuous division in a small, underdeveloped country of less than six million people for decades, with nothing tangible to point to. Why are we losing the war on the real issues confronting us, but giving more energy to the next election, which is more than four years away? Health, education, and security are just a few of our many sectors that remain seriously challenged, yet we are all about the next election. The concessionaires are getting away with billions of dollars 💸, yet we are all about the next election. The average Liberian businessman and woman are mere petty traders doing hand-to-mouth business due to a lack of access to finance, while aliens and foreigners are running the economy, yet we are more concerned about the next election. Is this generation here for just the next election? If this is not unpatriotic, what else could it be?
