To our community,
Three years ago we started Edible Minnesota to connect people to the many hands and hearts, as well as the creativity, energy and courage that make Minnesota’s abundant food system worth celebrating.
The current threats to our immigrant community are threats to our entire food system in which we all rely on, as our food system is built on diversity. From farms to restaurant kitchens, grocery stores to meat processing plants, our food system is built upon work that is often invisible, quietly happening behind the scenes and often accomplished by skilled and knowledgeable immigrants.
Right now, Minnesota is hurting. The ongoing fear and violence being perpetuated upon our community by ICE is threatening and impacting Minnesota’s food system, as people feel too afraid to leave their homes to go to work and small businesses struggle to keep their doors open.
To everyone who works in the agriculture, food and hospitality industries–thank you. We know so much love and energy goes into feeding your communities, and we value you deeply. More than anything, we want you to stay safe.
For those who are able, we encourage you to continue supporting locally owned and operated farmers markets and businesses to help them survive. Let’s be mindful, patient and empathetic when service is slow or the item you wanted isn’t available, as everyone is doing their best right now. Be kind, help your neighbors and give if you can.
In solidarity,
Edible Minnesota Team
