OWNERSHIP DETAILS RELEASED
It's been months since the Pohlad family announced that they weren't going to fully sell the Minnesota Twins franchise, and recently, they've taken on minority ownership, to help them pay down their large amount of debt. There's hasn't been much released on how the debt was accrued, or why the new ownership groups names haven’t been released , until now.
From a new piece by Dan Hayes for The Athletic, he writes about some of the accrued debt, "In 2021, a combination of attendance restrictions, poor play, and perceived security concerns during the trial of Derek Chauvin following George Floyd's murder in Minneapolis the year before led to the Twins drawing only 1.3M fans."
