ANNOUNCEMENT: I'm soon moving for a new job in Cincinnati and will discontinue publishing MNuet at the end of May.

I'm proud of what I accomplished in just over a year from the initial concept to now, but I believe someone deeply rooted in the Twin Cities classical/choral music scene can take MNuet much further. Anyone interested in purchasing and operating the site (the domain and all the assets associated with it), please contact me. I'd like to see it continue rather than quietly go away.

Conductor Bill Eddins, who worked for several years with the Minnesota Orchestra, on Monday posted this piece, which serves as an interesting corollary to my Opine Season column yesterday. Here, Eddins urges a realignment of nonprofit governance that gives equal weight to all stakeholders: http://www.insidethearts.com/sticksanddrones/2013/05/06/billeddins/13905/

In today's Opine Season column, I compare the salaries of orchestral musicians with those of other local professional artists and urge the Musicians of the SPCO and Musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra to launch their own artist-led orchestras.

The musicians of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra don’t realize the sweet deal they just signed. With their new contract, they have three years of salaries and benefits that will be the envy of 99 percent of working artists in the Twin Cities. More important, this contract gives them the time to do ...
