One of the lesser-sung benefits of living on a lake is the light. Rehkamp Larson Architects, Inc.'s latest project is an East Coast-inspired Colonial on a quiet lake outside the Twin Cities. For this wooded site, the homeowners envisioned a home with formal architecture and a lively spirit, inspired by traditional Colonial homes they'd admired while spending time on the East Coast.

Winsome nooks and small enchantments are sprinkled throughout the house, architectural touches that would be common in older homes of this style. Take the porthole window over a built-in desk off the stairs that peers into the pantry, a slim French casement window bisecting the living bookcase, classic tile detailing or the delicate Grecian pattern metal vent covers. This house oozes charm.

Before his passing, Mitch made his parents pinky-promise to continue to help kids with cancer and their families after he was gone.

Together with its supporters, Pinky Swear Foundation honors that promise by providing families with financial assistance for housing, food and transportation support during their childhood cancer journey. And because of this, these families can focus on what matters most — their child.

It’s the classic cabin conundrum. What should you prioritize – the cozy embrace of the fireplace or the captivating water views? That’s a tricky question that’s been confounding homeowners for generations. “In a lakeside living room, the draw is always to enjoy views of the water, but when a fireplace fills an opposite wall, it feels “wrong” not to face furniture toward it,” says David Heide Design Studio Architect Chris Christofferson.
