August 26, 2026 –The Minneapolis Fire Department has received confirmation from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner that the adult male found deceased at the scene of the August 21, 2026, fire in a detached garage at 4710 Colfax Avenue North died as a result of the fire. Although the individual was confirmed deceased on scene, the cause of death was not determined to be fire related until the Medical Examiner completed its investigation.

This incident represents the third fire fatality in the City of Minneapolis in 2026.

"This is a tragic loss, and our thoughts are with the family and all those affected," Interim Fire Chief Melanie Rucker.

Camaira Katherine Marian Dotson, 22, of Chanhassen, has been charged with 2nd degree assault in the north Minneapolis stabbing Sunday morning.

Charges say a person acting as security refused entry to Dotson at large gathering at 4:15 a.m. following a fight, so she stabbed him twice in the back.

Cymone Sherrie Dotson, 24, of Chaska was also arrested and remains in custody but has not been charged yet.

Two-alarm structure fire at 12th and Russell Ave N. Started after 4 p.m.

UPDATE FROM MFD:
Minneapolis firefighters responded yesterday afternoon to a house fire on the north side of the city.

Fire crews responded just after 4 pm to multiple reports of a fire in a home at 1233 Russell Ave. North. The arriving crews found flames and smoke coming from the front of a 1.5 story, single family house.

Firefighters entered the home and put out flames on the first floor before moving to fight the fire on the second floor. Given the size of the fire, additional firefighters were requested through a second alarm as the fire quickly spread throughout the structure. Crews were able to fully extinguish the fire after about 30 minutes.

Searches were conducted to ensure that the home had been evacuated. While neither of the two residents were injured, the damage caused by fire required the house to be boarded up. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents as well. Three firefighters were evaluated for minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
