Minneapolis Fire Department Responds to Early Morning Fire on 6th Street North
October 13, 2026 (Minneapolis) – At approximately 4:24 a.m., Minneapolis Fire Department crews responded to a reported fire in the basement of a two-story residential home located at 3939 N. 6th St. Upon arrival, firefighters observed active fire showing from the front of the structure.
Crews quickly deployed hose lines and conducted an exterior knockdown before entering the home. Inside, firefighters located the primary fire in the basement and discovered that flames had traveled upward through a pipe chase toward the first floor. Firefighters worked efficiently to contain the fire and prevent further extension, bringing the incident under control shortly thereafter.
Prior to MFD arrival, all occupants had safely evacuated the residence. During search operations, firefighters located three dogs and two cats that had perished due to smoke and fire conditions.
Given the significant smoke and fire damage, the American Red Cross was requested to provide assistance to ten displaced residents.
One resident sustained a minor burn injury and received on‑scene medical care but declined transport. Additionally, one firefighter was medically evaluated for overexertion and was not transported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The MFD incident number is 26-0051000.
