UPDATE on our overnight post.
Overnight Shooting Leaves One Dead, MPD Investigating

July 20, 2025 – Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced that police are investigating a fatal overnight shooting that left one man dead.

At approximately 3:09AM on July 20th, Fourth Precinct officers responded to the report of a shooting near Mississippi Dr N/Lyndale Av N.

Officers arrived and found a 19-year-old man with an apparent life-threatening gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were administered; however, the man ultimately succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The gunman fled the scene before officers arrived.

Investigators are actively working to determine the circumstances around the incident.

“Investigators are working diligently to gather information and learn what happened,” said Chief O’Hara. “Anyone who has information should reach out and provide that information. We are working to do everything we can to find justice for this victim and his family.”

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the man’s name, along with the official cause and manner of death.

Minneapolis Forensic Scientists responded to process the scene.
