Friends, clients, and other fans of the written word, I'm newly available for freelance editing and writing work. I'm also exploring full-time, in-house editing opportunities.

Though my professional life is currently in transition, my passion for my work is steadfast. I love what I’ve been doing all these years. Working with authors and publishers to create books that help people, make the world a little better, or just bring folks joy is my calling, and I can't wait to keep doing it.

I have exciting (and slightly bittersweet) news to share. After 12 years of freelance writing and editing, I will soon be mothballing Seven Cs Editorial. On Feb. 11, I’m going back to work as a staff editor for a book publishing company. I have *loved* freelancing—my clients, authors, and projects have been a delight—and I wouldn’t make such a big change for just any job. But the company I’m going to work for, Free Spirit Publishing, is so marvelous in so many ways that when this opportunity landed in front of me, I grabbed it with both hands. I already know I will enjoy the work and the people. So the only good-luck wishes I need are for adjusting to daily work near other grownups, wearing non-pajama pants! https://www.freespirit.com/

Cross-filed under "variety is the spice of life," "why I love my job," and "I learned something again": new projects accepted in the last day include a book called How to Raise Goats and an epic poem about medieval King Alfred the Great and the Battle of Eþandun. Fun fact: the Anglo-Saxon letter "þ" is called "thorn." It's pronounced "th" as in "thing." There, now you learned something too! 🙂

29 years ago today, the Berlin Wall came down. I was studying in London at the time, and I remember watching the events unfold on BBC with my 6 flatmates—all our jaws on the floor. It seemed impossible, yet it was happening right before our eyes. How hopeful and joyful the world felt that day! This book was one of my favorite writing projects ever. Learning and retelling the stories of the people it affected, from its construction to its demise, was a privilege.

It's just another eclectic week at Seven Cs. Finished editing a book on information security. In the homestretch on a book about teaching gifted children. Contracted to edit a book on avoiding behavior challenges in early childhood education. And now for some Formula 1 race cars! 🏁

When you have 3 different clients whose company names start with the same word, and you work with 3 different colleagues who have the exact same unusual first name, you need to be REALLY careful about double-checking the addressees of all your emails. 😬

Seven Cs is sad today, after hearing the news of the passing of Todd Bol, founder of the Little Free Library movement. Not only am I a big fan of books and libraries of all kinds, but I recently copyedited a book about building and stewarding LFLs. Godspeed, Mr. Bol, and thank you for your inspiration to share books and community with our neighbors.
