This giving season, your donation can help children with disabilities like Lee achieve their dreams.

Lee is five years old and has some developmental delays related to health challenges at birth. Early intervention helped him take great strides forward, but his plan for special education services did not reflect his progress and would have prevented him from attending his preferred school. Guidance from a PACER advocate empowered his grandma Kim to ask his team for new data. They observed Lee’s progress and changed their recommendation to services he could receive at the school with his friends! “PACER saved a little boy’s joy and gave my grandson his dreams back,” Kim said.

At PACER Center, we walk with families like Lee's through the complexities of special education, assistive technology, and other disability systems. Your gift will help us continue our mission and give the gift of education, independence, and joy to children with disabilities across Minnesota.

Get your transition questions answered at an expert panel presented by PACER Center and School District 191 SEAC! Join us on Thursday, December 4 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Diamondhead Education Center to learn how to support your student with a disability as they transition to adulthood. Panelists will include representatives from Dakota County Government Community Living Services, Dakota County Social Services, PACER Center, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Disability Hub MN, Volunteers of America Minnesota and Wisconsin (Center for Excellence in Supported Decision Making), a 191 graduate and parent, and ISD 191 Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District Special Education.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the passing of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which established the right of children with disabilities to a free appropriate public education (FAPE). IDEA has changed the education and quality of life for countless children with disabilities. PACER is here to help families access this important right for their child and receive the resources and support they need to help them thrive.
