CRAB-A: A Robot Built to Help Bring Wounded Soldiers to Safety
Reaching a wounded soldier can put an entire rescue team at risk. Ukraine’s CRAB-A, developed by Varta, is designed to help reduce that danger.
The remotely operated ground robot can carry up to 130 kilograms—about 287 pounds—and travel at speeds of up to 9 kilometers per hour. Its stated operating time is up to seven hours, with armor designed to offer protection during evacuation.
In areas threatened by drones, artillery, and mines, CRAB-A can help transport wounded soldiers toward a safer handoff point while reducing rescuers’ exposure.
The mission is simple: support combat medics and give wounded soldiers a better chance of getting home.
