Brazen Wretch is a one-man led collaborative Death Metal project from Plainfield, IL. Inspired by 90's Tampa bands like Morbid Angel, Cannibal Co**se, and Deicide, Brazen Wretch aims to hook, hex, and pulverize while paying homage to classic horror films and records. Featuring guest guitar leads and vocals from various Midwest projects, Brazen Wretch works to showcase talented musicians from around the Midwest aside dirty grooves and evil riffs.
Description
For many years, I played drums in the Minnesota Thrash/Death band Sanguinary. I really enjoyed it, but it didn't scratch the writing itch for me. Horror media is what drives me to make extreme music, and I felt a drive to pay homage to the original Florida death metallers and classic B movies, which I love to this day.
I was writing songs in tablature software at the time because I couldn’t physically play the guitar for s**t. While some of the stuff I was writing made it into our set list, it was pretty clear that the best shot I had of playing it was to pick up the guitar myself, so I did.
After a couple years, I began looking for vocalists who may be interested in a studio project, but didn’t come up with much for committed members. I thought, “Maybe I can find a different featured artist for every song so they don’t have to worry about the commitment of a traditional band.” I realized that it could be a great way to showcase the talent of a bunch of sick musicians from the Midwest. Brazen Wretch was born.
With the help of a few friends on vocals, and Will @ 14:59 studios, “Depths of the Sick” was recorded and released. I haven’t stopped writing since, and I’m still coming across new insanely talented musicians to work with. I feel like there's a ton of space in the OSDM soundscape to do your own thing while harnessing that raw energy that's foundational to the style. I absolutely love it.
