This starts tomorrow!

"The Great Northeast Scavenger Hunt begins NOW! Have you mapped your routes?! This year features 30 local businesses, the ones you keep hearing about, one for every day of 30 Days of Biking (April).

The protected bikeways (above) are a perfect way to get started, but the great thing about bicycles (one of so many) is that bikes can go anywhere, like right up to the front door (which is great because bikes make Scavenger Hunt selfies SO much better). And there’s no more convenient parking than bicycle parking. There’s always a space! (Unless it’s Art-a-Whirl.)

Hunters can earn the 2024 Merit Patch! Pick up great prizes from wonderful local businesses. But most important, get on your bike and ride! (It’s actually going to be a beautiful spring this time.)

Rules, details, checkpoints, everything at www.recovery.bike/events"

Hey everyone! The Northeaster office is a stop on the Great Northeast Scavenger Hunt! Details below.

"Announcing the 5th annual Great Northeast Scavenger Hunt!

This year’s Hunt celebrates (and supports) the amazing local businesses of Northeast during all 30 Days of Biking (April)!

Follow for daily Instagram checkpoints.
- Visit a checkpoint
- Tag Shop and the checkpoint partner of the day

5 posts earns the 2024 Merit Patch.

Visit all 30 checkpoints to earn the NE Super Fan Swag Bag with fabulous prizes from the 30 businesses profiled during the Hunt. Follow along to find out what’s in the bag.

But don’t do it for the prizes. Do it for Northeast. Do it for the exercise and the fresh air. Do it for the planet. Do it for yourself. Most important, take THE PLEDGE and do it for 30 Days!

Shout out to the NE Chamber of Commerce and the City of Mpls for collaborating again on this year’s hunt.

And wear your helmet!"

Earlier this month, Broken Clock Brewing unveiled a new beer dubbed “My Name is Peaches” after a lyric from a Nina Simone song. Proceeds from the sale of this new beer will go toward supporting the Sheridan Neighborhood Organization (SNO), which works closely with the brewery to back projects that improve the neighborhood.

Have you tried the beer yet? What are your thoughts?

Stone Arch Bridge virtual public meeting March 19

The Minnesota Dept. of Transportation will hold a virtual public meeting about the reconstruction of the Stone Arch Bridge Tuesday, March 19, 5:30-6:30 pm. Get an overview of the project, construction impacts, and schedule and participate in a Question-and-Answer session. Register at https://form.jotform.com/240504352939154?.

Soon, crews will repair and replace stone, replace the mortar on the entire bridge, and make other repairs as needed. During construction, pedestrians and bicyclists will not be able to cross the full length of the bridge through fall 2025. Crews will close half of the bridge at a time during construction, allowing people to walk or bike to the middle of the bridge and turn around at the closure. Construction is anticipated to be completed by spring 2026.

There are plenty of ways to assist your community and one of the biggest is to read your Northeaster. We've got the Northeast Experience section and various columns about what's happening. If you didn't read it, you could miss great things to do, like Hops for Hunger by SACA, a great way to help your community and drink beer. Check it out in the 2/21 edition of the Northeaster. https://www.mynortheaster.com/wp-content/news-archives/240221Northeaster/ =11

Tuesday, Feb. 26 was Walt Sentyrz’ last turn as a Minnesota State High School League swim meet official. After 43 years of pacing pool decks — 1,600-plus swim meets — he has retired from officiating. Don't worry, he'll still head up Sentyrz Market.

The Art to Change the World Climate Team is doing quite well in the Plastic-Free Challenge. Hopefully we're not just being competitive, but laying common ground for future actions and outreach. We believe art does change the world, and salute all the artists who are working on moving people to recognize climate change (and do something about it) through their art. Yesterday about 40 people (from all over) saw the "Plastic Earth" movie; learned about bioplastics and several other good things happening around the world that we could learn from. There's still time to participate in the challenge, whether or not you're inspired to join our ACW Climate Team.

This challenge will help you reduce plastic use in ways that fit best in your lifestyle. Together, our actions help protect water, improve our health, address climate change, and create a plastic-free world.
