On the new Resistant Communiqués Podcast episode, Ijeoma Oluo explains the corrosive role that carceral logics and thinking play in undermining movements. It alienates members from one another and makes it harder to build a genuine community or act in solidarity. Effective organizing and community building must be rooted in care, trust, and supporting one another to grow and learn collectively. As Oluo makes clear, to get over this, you must “kill the cop in your head”.

We are living in an information vacuum.

As discusses in her Resistant Communiqués episode, “We need local, trusted news outlets to follow up on these claims. But almost 40% of local news sources have vanished in the past 10 years, and 50 million Americans are without or with limited access to a news source.”

The case centered around a noise demonstration on July 4, 2025, in which roughly a dozen activists set off fireworks outside the Prairieland ICE detention center in Alvarado, Texas, about a 45-minute drive south of Dallas.

Noise demonstrations are, as Adam Federman reports, a common protest tactic, sometimes involving fireworks, whistles or megaphones. A way of expressing solidarity with immigrant detainees or inmates who have little contact with the outside world.

Is it AI or “Human Slop”? AI has lowered the barrier for propaganda. But the real danger isn’t just the bots, it’s what Lekas Miller aptly describes as “human slop”.

As journalists and consumers of media in the U.S., we have to ask: Are we consuming news, or are we feeding an algorithm designed to monetize our rage? How do we reclaim media literacy in an era of infinite AI generation and rage-bait incentives?

Brandon Webb and Matthew Penney use Japanese state debt to show how both mainstream economics’ fiscal panic narratives and Modern Monetary Theory’s (MMT) closed economy model fail to account for how the monetization of public debt fuels speculative finance, redistributes wealth upward, and under...
