In Waldheim Jewish Cemetery in Forest Park is the headstone of Mrs. Florence Loiben.

She was the wife of Morris Loiben m. 1914, and the mother of Marion, Benjamin, George, Blanche & Donald. She was also apparently “a dearest beloved pal” ❤️

Helen Jane Buss was born Jan. 4, 1839 in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of John Buss and Abigail Hall.

She was the sister of Edgar, Lydia, Cynthia, Minerva & Fannie. ❤️

She spent most of her life within Will County, Illinois. She never married nor had children.

In the 1920 census she was listed as an "aunt-in-law" in Kansas City, Missouri.

Between then and 1926 she made her way to Atlanta. 🍑

Helen passed away on November 18, 1926 in Atlanta, Georgia, aged 87 from heart failure following a severe asthma attack. Her body was brought back to Wilmington to be buried with her parents. 🥀

This family plot tells such a layered and touching story 🤍

Here rests Adolph Arp, his wife Laura, and their son Edwin. The monument features a beautiful ceramic portrait of Adolph and Laura riding horses through the desert, paired with a smaller image of young Edwin on horseback beside them; a visual thread of shared love for travel and the open land.

Edwin’s stone is especially poignant. He died in 1918 in Davenport, Iowa, at just 7 years old, and his headstone plainly lists his cause of death: “died of polio.” A simple, honest inscription that quietly reflects a devastating chapter in history that many families faced.

At the base of the monument sits a small stone that reads:

“They traveled together 50,000 miles.”
A short line that speaks volumes — of adventure, partnership, and a life lived side by side.

Adding another layer of meaning, Mr. Arp served as president of the Pine Hill Cemetery Association, the very place where his family now rests. Caring for this ground during his life, and ultimately becoming part of its story.

A family remembered through love, loss, and the journeys they shared 🐎✨

A prime example of why cemetery preservation is so important.

End-of-year reflections🖤✨

After photos like these remind me why I started: memories preserved, stories respected, history cared for.

This year brought big changes: officially becoming a business in August, moving into a brand new area this spring, and finding an incredible community along the way. From growing friendships with fellow GraveGeeks, to support from a local funeral home, to being welcomed by new cemeteries and their board members — I'm deeply grateful.

Here's to the stones restored, the stories remembered, and what's still to come. 🕊️

This headstone made me stop and get out of my car to look! 🪦 🐖

An engraved pig proudly takes center stage on the Pigg family monument in A. R. Dyche Memorial Park in London, Kentucky, a literal and unforgettable tribute to the family name. It’s bold and full of personality!

This stone marks the resting place of Arch Pigg, son of James Pigg and Lucy Phillips, and Rose Pigg, daughter of Dr. Thomas Bowers and Pollie Nelson. Together they had a daughter, Polly Pigg.

Sometimes a memorial doesn’t need flourishes or long epitaphs. Sometimes, a single image says it all—and makes sure a family is never forgotten.

Pretty Day down in Kentucky, and of course I had to stop at some local cemeteries.

A beautiful memorial at Mount Auburn Memorial Park in Stickney, Illinois 🦋

This headstone honors Xi Quan Chen (1948–2020) and spouse Kwok Hei P**n (1938–2017). The vibrant butterflies bring such a gentle sense of movement and life, symbolizing transformation, love, and the bond that continues beyond this world. A quiet, colorful tribute to a life shared and remembered.

Merry Faye Todd — a name that feels perfectly placed in the Christmas season. 🎄🎁

Merry was born September 19, 1946, and passed on June 15, 2003. Her name alone carries warmth, light, and a sense of joy that feels especially meaningful this time of year.

She was the daughter of Lee Roy Todd and Cecil Edith Hancock, and a sister to Barbara, Maxine, Penny, and Cindy, and to the late Shirley, Leslie, Roy, and Wesley.

Merry Christmas from my family to yours ❤️
