Congrats to our 2027 Conference destination, Visit Virginia's Blue Ridge, for their record breaking numbers!

We wonder what that "new conference" is in the subhead? Surely not one full of excellent writers, photographers, podcasters, and otehr communicators who will show their audiences the beauty of Western Virginia?

OWAA member Jeff Lund (On Step Media) raved in the Juneau Empire about our conference in Madison, Wisconsin. He said, "I don’t seek out conferences, but every once in a while, I’m tempted. I’m happy to report the Outdoor Writers Association of America conference in Madison, Wisconsin, did not disappoint. It did what a good conference should do, inspire, inform, and make you regret you hadn’t been going all along."

Inspired by a session at our conference, OWAA member Deborah Lee Luskin published an article about the Roadless Rule on the blog of the National Wildlife Federation's Artemis Sportswomen program ("Bold Sportswomen Creating Fresh Tracks for Conservation").

She said, "The main purpose of these forests is not decorative, nor to protect wildlife, although they do provide magnificent scenery and habitat for many animals, from humble insects to charismatic megafauna. Of greater importance, forests hold soil, filter water, sequester carbon, and serve as the lungs for our planet. More than ever, humans need forests for flood prevention, for drinking water, and for clean air."
