Happy Summer, Everyone!

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer so far and are enjoying the extra time you get to share with your children!

The purpose of this email is to let you know that Governor Reynolds signed into law HF 782 which requires schools in Iowa to adopt policies to restrict students use of cellphones and other electronic devices (i.e. smart watches) during instructional time. The goal of this law is to reduce distractions, improve academic focus, and support safe and respectful learning environments.

I recognize that devices like cell phones and smartwatches can play a role in communication and safetyโ€”but we also know that they can interfere with learning. I also know that some of you have very strong opinions that students need to have their phones available to them at all times. It is because of this that I want you to be able to have time to digest the changes, as well as share your concerns so those can be addressed prior to the first day of the 2025-26 school year.

As we get closer to the school year, I will share our new regulations to this policy, as well as alternate ways you can contact your child throughout the school day.

Please know that I do not monitor Facebook comments, so if you have questions about the changes, please email those directly to me at [email protected] or contact me at the District Office at 712-642-2706, ext. 4.

I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your summer.

Sincerely,
Christi Gochenour
Superintendent

A new Iowa state law restricts student cell phone use during the school day, starting in 2025-26. This change supports learning and reduces distractions in classrooms. ๐Ÿ“ต

We appreciate your partnership in creating a focused learning environment for all students! ๐Ÿ“š

AGRICULTURE - The Backbone of America

As County Fair Season approaches around the area. -- Make an attempt to stop by and support county fair scene

We fill the bleachers on Friday nights for football. We fill the bleachers on cold winter nights for basketball. We travel miles and miles, to sit in the bleachers for volleyball, baseball, softball, wrestling, and dance.

Our 4-H and FFA families would like to invite you to fill the bleachers on a warm summer day during county fair week and watch the kids who practice with a 1300 pound steer that doesnโ€™t always want to walk, a 140 pound lamb that doesnโ€™t want to get on the stand for the 100th time, a 280 pound hog that just wants to stay in the cool barn, a stubborn goat that doesnโ€™t like the chain, or any other number of issues that can happen when you own livestock.

Come check out the Exhibit Building for all the non-livestock exhibitors. Those kids have heart and dedication and put hours into their creations. Come and learn from these future leaders while listening to their communication projects.

Letโ€™s fill the bleachers, barns, and buildings to show these kids that their hard work doesnโ€™t go unnoticed and because of them, the future of the agriculture and leadership is in good hands.
