After being advised that all network systems are back up and operating, the South Dakota Supreme Court on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, issued an order rescinding a judicial emergency in South Dakota.

The Court rescinded the judicial emergency ordered on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025, after carefully monitoring current circumstances related to a large-scale technical issue which impacted the State of South Dakota network. During the judicial emergency, all deadlines, time schedules, due dates and filing requirements imposed by applicable statutes, rules and court orders were suspended retroactive to Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025.

Technical issues began affecting the South Dakota network beginning Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025. The network issue impacted the state court system’s ePayments, eCourts, and File and Serve platforms.

The Court declared the existence of a judicial emergency and rescinded the order in accordance with SDCL 16-3-11 through 15.

A serial p*dophile in Louisiana has agreed to be both “physically and chemically” castrated in part to reduce his sentence in prison.

37 year old Thomas Allen McCartney is classified as a Level 3 offender, and is classified as one of Louisiana’s worst child predators.

For his latest crime, in which he was accused of trying to s*xually assault an 7 year old female, he was sentenced to 40 years in prison. At his sentencing, he told the judge that he agreed to be castrated, saying it was “necessary to prevent other families from having to live through nightmares like this.” Had he declined the castration, (under Louisiana law) a 3-5 year prison sentence would have been added on to his original sentence.

Louisiana is the first and only state to allow castrations to be used for most severe s*x crimes cases. The law (which became effective just this month) makes McCartney the first person to be sentenced to such punishment.

Thomas McCartney was accused of s*xually assaulting the girl in February 2023. As the mother discovered the assault, McCartney pulled out a handgun and threatened the mother before escaping the residence. He was arrested in Houston, Texas the following day, and returned to Louisiana to face s*x assault charges.

He pled guilty this week to Attempted First Degree R**e of Someone Younger than 13. For that guilty plea, he was sentenced to 40 years in prison and the castration.

State Health Officials have announced the detection of E-Coli Bacteria has been found in McCook Lake.

Five water samples were collected late last month, and 1 of the samples was “above the state limit”. That sample was collected near Izaak Walton League Swim Area Beach in North Sioux City (Union County.)

Wildlife Activities, low water levels, and last summers flooding are said to be key factors in contributing to the growth of bacteria.

A no-wake zone is still in effect for parts of the lake. SD GFP say that more testing will be completed in the spring of 2026
