A decade ago, Leslie Fox and her husband, Danny, decided to “get out of the city” and do something different.

Over the next 10 years, they relocated from West Mobile to Stockton, carving out a homestead in the woods complete with a cabin, barn, greenhouse, garden shed, chicken coop, duck pen, bee boxes and more.

Tag along as Leslie gives us an inside look at life on the homestead: https://mobilebaymag.com/out-on-the-homestead-with-leslie-fox/

The Gulf City Cookbook, published in 1878 by the Ladies of the St. Francis Street Methodist Episcopal Church, includes an entry by that name.

In 1981, Mobile native Eugene B. Sledge published a New York Times Best Seller, “With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa," chronicling his life as a US Marine in World War II.

Parts of the original manuscript were cut — until now. Henry Sledge has accessed the original, unedited work of his father. He's taken these unpublished pages, copious notes and personal recollections to write a book of his own, "The Old Breed, The Complete Story Revealed.”

We caught up with Henry Sledge for a discussion about his book, memories of Mobile and his father’s life as a marine: https://mobilebaymag.com/the-old-breed-henry-sledges-new-book/
